In separate messages to his foreign counterparts on New Year’s Eve, Defense Minister Amir Hatami hoped that the year 2018 would mark close international cooperation in the fight against terrorism and extremism. On Sunday, the Iranian minister sent congratulatory messages to his counterparts in Russia, Armenia, Belarus, South Africa, North Korea, Serbia, Poland, Greece, Venezuela, Italy, Brazil, Bolivia, Cuba, Austria, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to Tasnim News Agency. Congratulating those countries and their armed forces on the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ (PBUH) and the beginning of 2018, the general hoped for concerted action in the fight against violence, extremism and terrorism.

He also wished stronger military and security cooperation between Tehran and those nations in the new year. In his New Year’s message to Pope Francis a few days ago, President Hassan Rouhani had also called for efforts to create a world full of peace and moderation and “free from violence and extremism”.
