A local startup dubbed ‘Baroty’ has launched an e-commerce website offering business-to-consumer and consumer-to-consumer services. Just like global online retailers like eBay, through its platform baroty.com, the business offers a wide range of goods under different categories. The website has an auction section through which new and used goods can be sold. According to the firm’s website, registering with Baroty and participating in auctions is free. The business takes a 10% commission from the seller for products valued less than 500,000 rails ($12). The commission rate is reduced as the value of sales increases. Several other local online platforms offer similar services including Redkala, Bamilo and Digiharaj.
