A foreign ministry official said on Saturday Hamas Political Bureau chief Khaled Meshaal is expected to visit Iran in the near future.
Hossein Amir-Abdollahian confirmed on Saturday that such a visit will take place without elaborating on the exact date and purpose of the trip.
The deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs denied reports that Tehran has cut its relations with the Palestinian resistance group and said, "Iran will always maintain relations with Hamas."
He went on to say that Iran and other Islamic nations "will never leave the oppressed Palestinian people alone."
"Resistance is a key to the victory of the Palestinian people" against the Israeli regime, he said.
Reuters last week quoted Hamas deputy leader as saying that Hamas and Iran have repaired a close relationship soured by the Syrian war.
Hamas has been hostile toward Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who is backed by Tehran in the three-year-old Syrian war.
Moussa Abu Marzouk told Reuters that "I believe that bilateral relations between us and the Islamic Republic of Iran are back on track."
"There are many indications that ... relations have been resumed in the proper way, as in the past," Abu Marzouk said, without elaborating.
A Hamas delegation visited Iran in mid-December. Mahmoud al-Zahar, a co-founder of Hamas and a member of the Hamas leadership in the Gaza Strip, has also said, "In order to confront the challenges and big threats facing Palestine, we seek assistance and consolidation of ties with Arab and Islamic countries, especially the Islamic Republic of Iran."
