Iranian feature film ‘No Date, No Signature’ directed by Vahid Jalilvand received two awards at the 58th Thessaloniki International Film Festival in Greece, November 12.
Jalilvand’s movie won the Special Jury Award ‘Silver Alexander’ as well as the FIPRESCI Jury Award in the international competition, Honaronline reported.
The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) is an association of national organizations of professional film critics and film journalists from around the world for the promotion and development of film culture and for safeguarding professional interests. It was founded in June 1930 in Brussels and has members in more than 50 countries.
No Date, No Signature tells the story of a respected forensic pathologist getting involved in a car accident, where an 8-year-old boy is injured.
The next morning, the boy’s body is brought for an autopsy in the hospital where the pathologist works. Although the results of the first diagnosis indicate food poisoning, the doctor believes he is responsible for the boy’s death.
The film is another good example of the cinema of moral dilemmas, infused with a meticulous character study.
Jalilvand’s second feature film has so far won several national and international awards including Best Director and Best Actor Awards at the Horizons section of the 74th Venice Film Festival in Italy in September.
Jury members at the Thessaloniki festival comprised Iranian actor, director and screenwriter Payman Moadi, along with Czech artistic director Karel Och, Palestinian director, screenwriter and producer Annemarie Jacier, actress Maria Nafpliotou from Greece and French sound designer Bruno Tarriere.
The 58th edition of the festival was held November 2-12
