A new virus, disguised as a promotional text message is targeting smartphone users in Iran.
The virus has been reported on the official website of Iran Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Center (Iran CERTCC) affiliated to the Telecoms Ministry.
Over the past several days, a large number of malware infections have been reported on smartphones which start via a text message luring users to click on a corrupt link.
Users receive a text message containing a URL link that says, ‘click to receive two gigabytes of free internet’.
The center has cautioned against the attack and called on users to be wary of such messages and not click on links they do not recognize. Tech experts say installing antivirus and keeping it updated can reduce the possibility of infection.
