The vice president for science and technology announced that the amount of research funding in different areas has increased between 3-14 percent in next year’s budget, MNA reported on Wednesday. Sorena Sattari said that two kinds of research are conducted in Iran; first are the ones that are aimed at expanding knowledge frontiers, and second are research projects that are carried out with the aim of commercialization. “We need both kinds of research in our country,” said Sattari, adding that, due to a lack of frontier research in the past, the country has not been able to reach a knowledge-based economy, which was set as a target in Iran’s comprehensive scientific map.
