Turkey is seeking a permanent resolution to a transit fee dispute with Iran. The spat between the two neighboring countries has been resolved to some extent since Iran agreed to temporarily (for 15 days) suspend a decision to seal the fuel tanks of the Turkish trucks crossing its border, IRNA reported on Wednesday. Some 500 trucks travel between the two countries every day. Nurettin Canikli, the Turkish customs minister, says that both sides have acted “positively” during negotiations but has urged a permanent resolution. The dispute broke out on October 10 when the Turkish side started charging Iranian trucks $31 per each 100 km of travel inside Turkey – a move that brought about Iran’s retaliation.
