Elderly Care Centers

The State Welfare Organization currently has 281 day-care centers for the elderly across the country, providing support services to  14,411 senior citizens, an official with SWO’s elderly rehabilitation office, Zahra Noparast, said on Monday. The provinces with the highest median age of residential population include Gilan, Mazandaran, Tehran, Isfahan, and Semnan, while the provinces of Hormozgan, Khuzestan and Sistan-Baluchestan have the lowest median age, she noted, ISNA reported. Speaking at a press conference on the occasion of World Alzheimer’s Day (21 September), she noted that an estimated 600,000-700,000 Iranians suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. “The number is expected to rise three-fold by year 2050,” she added.
