Iran will attend the GITEX Technology Week for the third consecutive year that will open in Dubai on October 8.

Hooman Hajipour, deputy for businesses at Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mining and Agriculture, said 12 local startups will represent Iran at the event, local technology website CITNA reported.

Persian Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (aka GITEX) is a five-day annual technology event held in the United Arab Emirates. Major ICT companies from different countries participate in the event presenting their latest products and innovations. IT professionals, technology enthusiasts, students and consumers and regional traders take part.

According to Hajipour, 56 Iranian startups have sent their business ideas to the chamber.

After assessing all, 12 were selected. With financial support from the chamber, the startups will attend the prominent tech gathering.

The list of selected startups includes: Khabario (an online news aggregator), Ninix (producer of baby monitoring devices), Zarinpal (the largest non-bank local payment application), QuantCan (market analytics service provider), Arizeh (online legal services), Dr. Robot (medical robotic assistant), Techhuber (a database of Iranian startups), Sahba (robot producer), Retain (B2C communication software developer), Simia (online services for Iranian expats), Redkala (online auction platform) and  Dographic (application and website developer)

Last year eight Iranian startups participated in the event. Prominent international companies including Microsoft, Lenovo, HP, Digi Robotics and Intel attended the 2016 event at which drones and virtual reality were in the spotlight.
