During the first five months of the current calendar year (March 21-August 22), as many as 905,803 people donated blood at centers set up by Iran’s Blood Transfusion Organizations across the country, ISNA reported.
“Of this number, 124,615 were first-time donors and 39,457, amounting to 4.3% of total donors, were women,” IBTO spokesperson, Bashir Haji-Beigi said. IBTO has distributed more than 1.5 million units of blood products including, packages of red blood cell, plasma, and platelets to health centers and hospitals during the five-month period, he added.
Type O-positive accounted for 34% of blood donated during the period, whereas the AB type amounted to 0.8%.
