Housing, Energy Top Household Expenses

Data released by the Central Bank of Iran show that housing and energy related-expenses constituted more than one-third (35.5%) of monthly household expenses during the previous fiscal year that ended in March.

Food and drinks made up 23% of the spending while transportation stood at third place with a 10.6% share, the Persian-language newspaper Donya-e-Eqtesad reported.

Other major household expenses included goods and services (8.4%), healthcare (5.9%), clothing and shoes (4.3%), home appliances (4%), communications and hospitality services (2.1%), entertainment and education (1.9%), and tobacco (0.3%).
