According to figures released by the Health Ministry, 30.5% of all deaths in the country occur due to cardiovascular diseases. “Stroke is the second leading cause of death in Iran (10.3%),” said Dr. Alireza Mahdavi, head of the cardiovascular health office at the ministry, on Saturday. Noting that people at risk of cardiovascular complications tend to have high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess fat around the waist and high triglyceride for about 10 years before experiencing a heart attack or stroke, he said screening helps in preventing potential fatalities, ISNA reported.
