The Afghan deputy foreign minister said the conference on World Against Violence and Extremism (WAVE), which was held in Tehran last week, was a "great step" in the campaign against terrorism and extremism in the world.
Atiqullah Atefmal made the remarks in a meeting with Ambassador to Afghanistan Mohammad Reza Bahrami in Kabul on Monday, IRNA reported.
He described his trip to Tehran to attend the conference as positive and said, "Such meetings are very crucial in the battle against terrorism and extremism."
Elsewhere, the Afghan official thanked Iran for providing assistance to the Afghans in various fields.
He referred to the historical, cultural, and political ties between the two countries and called for continued cooperation to help resolve the problems facing Afghan refugees. Mohammad Reza Bahrami, for his part, highlighted the similarities between the two nations and said Iran is resolved to cooperate with the Afghan administration and nation.
He cited measures such as extending visas for a number of Afghan refugees, increasing the number of visas which are issued for Afghan visitors, easing the procedure for obtaining visas and providing educational services to Afghan refugees' children as examples of such cooperation.
Tehran hosted the first international Conference on World Against Violence and Extremism on December 9-10. Prominent intellectuals and political figures from around the globe attended the conference.
