Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has denounced "incompetent" Saudi leaders for being cruel toward Muslims and kind to enemies of Muslims, and trying in vain to build bonds of friendship with the US.
Ayatollah Khamenei made the statement in a Qur'an recitation ceremony on the occasion of the fasting month of Ramadan in Tehran on Saturday.
"Unfortunately, the Muslim community, like other societies, is also afflicted by problems, and incompetent leaders have taken hold of the fate of some Muslim communities," he said according to a transcript posted on his website.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the Saudi government is oppressing its people and tyrannizing the people of Yemen and Bahrain.
"They are giving special handouts to the US... These deluded people actually think they can earn the friendship of Islam's enemies by providing them with money and assistance."
"The Americans are milking them and will ultimately slaughter them".
The Leader was pointing to a visit by US President Donald Trump to Riyadh last week, during which Saudi rulers signed contracts to buy $110 billion of US weapons and signed investment deals worth an estimated $350 billion.
Iran and Saudi Arabia are at odds over various regional conflicts, particularly in Yemen, which has been pounded by the Saudi bombers for over two years, and in Bahrain, where the house of Saud is assisting the minority rulers with mounting crackdown on peaceful protests.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the reason for the Saudi rulers' errors of judgment lies largely in their lack of belief in the holy Qur'an and acting in contravention of its teachings.
Bond With Pagans
"For pretence, they [Saudi monarchy] publish and distribute millions of copies of the Qur'an for free. But in practice, they are in cahoots with unbelievers and give the money that should be spent to improve their people's lives to infidels and enemies of their people," he said.
The Leader said according to the Qur'an, oppressors are doomed and will eventually face collapse.
"No one should be deceived by the facade. They [Saudi rulers] are on the wrong side. They will certainly perish. They may survive for some time; it depends on how believers take action. If they act correctly, it (disintegration of the house of Saud) will happen sooner. If they don't [react], it might take longer", he said.
