Renault named Fabrice Cambolive as head of the automaker’s operations in Africa, the Middle East (including Iran) and India, replacing Bernard Cambier, who held the post since 2014.
Currently CEO of Renault in Brazil, Cambolive will assume his new position on July 1. He will also join the company’s management committee.
Cambier, who held a variety of management posts since joining Renault in 1979, will be leaving the company, the automaker said in a statement, Automotive News Europe reported.
The Africa-Middle East-India region (known internally as AMI) that Cambolive will lead, is Renault’s second largest in terms of sales, with 491,151 vehicles sold in 2016, Renault said. The company has had notable success in India, becoming the leading European brand by sales, led by the Kwid subcompact crossover.
In Iran, Renault gained 3.7 points in market share last year, reaching 8.4%, which the company attributed to the success of the Sandero subcompact hatchback and Tondar sedan. It is also investing in production facilities with a goal of reaching an annual capacity of 350,000 vehicles.
High Market Share
The news of Cambolive’s new position follows that of Peyman Kargar, who moved from his position overseeing Renault’s Iran operations to a new position in India, as acting president of Nissan India.
In an email to top managers in India, Kargar said he would be interim president of Nissan India operations, in addition to his responsibilities as chairman of the AMI region.
In April, Kargar was also appointed senior vice president and management committee chairman of AMI region at Renault, a move seen to create further collaboration with the large Asian auto market for the firm.
