Shrimp production is estimated to increase by 43% to reach more than 30,000 tons in the current Iranian year (started March 21), the secretary-general of Seafood Exporters Union said.
“Last year, shrimp exports stood at around 14,000 tons. We expect the figure to rise to about 20,000 this year,” Ali Akbar Khodaei was also quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency.
The official noted that members of the European Union, Russia, Southeast Asian countries, Vietnam and China as well as the Persian Gulf littoral Arab states are the main export destinations of Iranian shrimp.
