Uganda’s inflation accelerated to 6.8% year-on-year in April from 6.4% a month earlier, fueled by a surge in vegetable prices, the statistics office said, Nasdaq reported. The Uganda Bureau of Statistics said core inflation—which strips out food, fuel, metered water and electricity prices—rose to 4.9% from 4.7%. Most parts of Uganda experienced a prolonged drought that stretched from early 2016 to early this year, which led to dismal harvests and a jump in the prices of most food items including vegetables. On a monthly basis, the statistics office said, headline inflation rose by 0.4% in April, from 0.7% the previous month.
