Promoting Road Safety for Schools

Chinese carmaker Chery hosted an evening of road safety for Tehran’s schools on April 11. The event hosted by Shokouh Language Institute, worked with local teachers to promote road safety for children, according to a press release from the company and the language school. As part of the event, local teachers were given extensive training on road safety education and the training included everything from wearing seatbelts to crossing the roads. The rare program was supported by local authorities including senior police officials from west Tehran. Chery began operations in Iran in 2015, the company originally imported models to Iran, but in the past few months has begun operations to assemble in Bam, in the center of the country. The event follows recent reports and data released by the traffic police saying that during the first two days of the Nouruz holidays in March at least 145 people were killed in road accidents and 2,950 people were injured. The fatalities although unacceptably high, is down on the previous year when 389 people died in 294 road accidents during the same period.
