Plan to Help Build 100,000 Houses for Low-Income Groups

The National Land and Housing Organization of Iran is to build more than 100,000 residential units as part of the Comprehensive Housing Plan and create funds to finance the housing sector in various provinces, a senior official with the organization affiliated with the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development said.

"In the current fiscal year [March 2017-18], our organization will follow the ministry's action plan based on the Comprehensive Housing Plan, because if the plan is realized, it means that the country's need for housing has been realized," Sharareh Amani also said in a talk with the official news website of MRUD.

In June 2015, MRUD released the first draft of the plan, which summarizes the sector’s situation and future prospects, as well as the government’s strategic and executive plans for the housing sector for the next 11 years.

According to Amani, who heads the organization's Office for Planning and Asset and Budget Outfitting, the organization was tasked with building 100,000 houses for low-income households in the previous fiscal year and succeeded in meeting 68% of that target.

"The organization's share in the current fiscal year is to build 108,000 residential units as part of the Comprehensive Housing Plan," she said.

The official noted that her organization has conducted studies to set up a land and housing fund and has selected a number of provinces for implementing the plan.

Noting that the organization hopes to use these funds as a new method to finance the housing sector, Amani said, "Tehran, Urmia (in West Azarbaijan province) and Kurdestan have received permits to establish these funds so far and the same will be undertaken for other provinces."
