An exhibition of artworks by foreign artists who live in Berlin will be held at Azad Art Gallery in Tehran from April 21.

Titled ‘Copy/Paste’, the project is curated by two Iranian artists Shahram Entekhabi and Zartosht Rahimi, Mehr News Agency reported.

The exhibit will showcase works of 13 renowned international artists from Austria, Italy and Germany and other countries who reside in Berlin. “They have either organized their country’s pavilion at Venice Biennial or are among the notable professors in German universities,” Rahimi said.

The artists include Monica Bonvicini (from Italy, presenting an installation), Candice Breitz (South Africa, video art), Birgit Brenner (German, mixed media), Mathilde ter Heijne (France, installation), He Xiangyu (China, installation), Christian Jankowski (Germany, film installation), Helmut and Johanna Kandl (Germany, photos), Christin Lahr (Germany, mixed media art), Karin Sander (Germany, mixed media art), Egill Saebjornsson (Iceland, installation), Kai Schiemenz (Germany, installation), Anatoly Shuravlev (Russia, installation) and Vadim Zakharov (Tajikistan, installation).

The show will include installations, photos, video art, performances and mixed media artworks. “Four of the artists will come to Iran and the others will supervise the exact remake of their works which will happen in Tehran. Some artists will send a part of their creations and the rest of the work will be completed here in Tehran,” Rahimi explained.

“In contemporary art, what is important is the idea and concept and since an idea does not have a fixed form, so the artist can present his/her idea with instructions to be created by others,” the co-curator noted adding that this can make art more common among the public. The project will be repeated in Isfahan in June.

Rahimi is a visual artist, art critic and curator who has been busy with painting since a young age. He is also working on his own paintings to prepare them for a solo exhibition in fall.

Simple and pure illustration and avoiding additional complexity are the things that make Zartosht’s art attractive. Though simple, his artworks are elegant.

The other curator of ‘Copy/Paste’ exhibit Entekhabi is a conceptual artist, curator and architect. Born in Boroujerd, Iran, he studied graphic design at University of Tehran, and architecture, urbanism, and Italian language in Italy.

His work has been the subject of many exhibitions across the globe.
