The government is to invest 4.9 trillion rials ($130 million) in the ICT sector in the eastern Khorasan Razavi Province.
According to CITNA, 3.2 trillion rials ($84 million) will be invested directly in 22 private companies active in the key sector.
The Communication and Information Technology Ministry has announced that the investment would create 8,000 jobs in the region.
According to the ministry's figures, the private sector and the government invested 8.2 trillion rials ($217 million) to develop the information and communication industry after President Hassan Rouhani took office in 2013. His tenure ends in summer.
Just over 300 billion rials ($7.8 million) has been earmarked for “Mashhad 2017”, a project which the Rouhani administration is implementing in collaboration with the Islamic Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).
ISESCO is set to celebrate Mashhad — the capital city of Khorasan Razavi Province — as the fourth capital of Islamic Culture in Asia this year.
