There are 19 million vehicles in Iran, Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi announced. “Including the motorcycles, the figure tops 29 million,” he was quoted as saying by the ministry’s news service. Akhoundi noted that 500,000 automobiles are added to the number of vehicles annually, suggesting that the country has not been successful in promoting the use of public transportation. “Every day, 1.2 million private cars travel to Tehran,” the minister added, describing it as “terrifying”.
