The third meeting of Iran-Oman strategic cooperation committee co-chaired by the deputy foreign ministers of the two countries was held in Muscat on Monday.
The officials reviewed bilateral relations, regional and international cooperation and the latest regional developments, IRNA reported.
Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian touched on the excellent relations between the two states and highlighted the significance of bilateral consultations.
He said consultations with Oman which holds "realistic" and "logical" views can play an effective part in helping establish stability and security in the region. The deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs referred to terrorism, extremism and the so-called Islamic State (IS) terrorist group as the common threats facing regional states and stressed the need for increased security and defense cooperation between Tehran, Muscat and other regional countries.
Under Secretary of Oman's Foreign Ministry for Diplomatic Affairs Ahmed al-Harthy referred to the constructive role of Iran in addressing regional challenges and said, "Holding regular meetings between the two states, especially (within the framework of) the joint strategic committee, indicates the resolve and determination of high-level officials in both countries to expand and consolidate wide-ranging bilateral relations."
"The Sultanate of Oman attaches great significance to Iran and its undeniable regional role, based on which we consider promotion of cooperation with Iran in all spheres as a top priority," he added.
