The success of each medical treatment depends highly upon the genetic structure of the patient, said Seyyed Masoud Houshmand, scientific secretary of the first International Iran Congress of Personalized Medicine. “The ultimate goal of personalized medicine is to study individual genomes to be able to prescribe the most efficient treatment accordingly,” he said on the sidelines of the conference, Mehr News Agency reported. Personalized medicine is a medical procedure that separates patients into different groups with medical decisions, practices, interventions and/or products being tailored to their individual need based on the predicted response or risk to disease. The congress covers a variety of aspects of personalized medicine and their correlation with each other, and concludes on February 29.
