A major leap has been reported in the consumption of automotive glass in the first nine months of the fiscal year (March-December 2016) due to the 39% increase auto production compared to the corresponding period last year.
Three major float glass companies -- Kaveh Glass Group, Sahand Industrial Group and Ardakan Float Glass Corporation -- produce automotive grade glass, Glass Online reports.
The three companies have invested in automotive processing facilities to supply glass to leading car and passenger vehicle producers. In addition, about half a dozen downstream glass processors are engaged in making automotive glass for the rapidly growing automotive industry.
Auto output in Iran during the nine months registered a 39.1% increase compared to the same period last year, according to Iranian news agencies.
A total of 949, 497 vehicles were produced during the period. Passenger cars at 881,935 recorded a 40.9 increase compared to the same period in 2015.
Iran is projected to produce 1.35 million cars by the end of the current fiscal in March, according to Mohsen Salehinia, a deputy industry ministry.
The automotive industry has a special place in Iran’s manufacturing sector. It accounts for about 6% of GDP and 4% of the workforce, second only to the hydrocarbon industry.
Iran Khodro is the largest automobile manufacturer in the Middle East region. It first started production of LP buses in 1962, the chassis of which were imported from Germany.
