Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari and his Russian and Turkish counterparts held a trilateral meeting in Moscow on latest developments in war-ravaged Syria and the upcoming peace talks on the Arab country in the Kazakh capital Astana.

After his recent talks with Secretary-General of European External Action Service Helga Schmid in Brussels and his meetings in Geneva, Ansari arrived in Moscow on Friday to participate in the three-way meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and his Turkish counterpart, Tasnim News Agency reported.

The talks, which were attended by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, focused on arrangements for the Syrian peace talks due to be held in Astana on January 23.

Diplomatic efforts to end fighting in Syria have gained momentum in recent weeks with the announcement of a ceasefire in the Arab country on January 1.

The truce, which has been negotiated by Russia, Iran, Turkey, the Damascus government and the Syrian opposition, excludes terrorist groups such as the self-styled Islamic State and Jabhat Fateh al-Sham.
