Some 72,000 traditional bread bakeries are operating in Iran, meeting 95% of domestic demand for bread, the head of Tehran Bakers Union said.
“About 80% of the flour used in these traditional bakeries are subsidized,” Qasem Zera’atkar was also quoted as saying by IRNA.
The official noted that the job market in the bread baking business in Iran is currently saturated.
According to Ali Qanbari, managing director of Government Trading Corporation of Iran, about 20,000 billion rials ($570 million) worth of bread are wasted in Iran every year.
