Economy minister Ali Tayebnia is in Istanbul to take part in the ministerial meeting of the 30th session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) which is being held November 25-28.

The event is being held with the participation of the OIC member states and OIC regional and international institutions.

Issues like reviewing COMCEC strategy and its implementation; the implementation of the OIC’s Ten-Year Program of Action; economic development in OIC member countries; recent developments in intra-OIC trade; and implementation of a trade preferential system among the OIC member states (TPS-OIC) are high on the agenda.

The priority sectors include agriculture, tourism, trade, finance, and transportation.

The two-day ministerial meeting will start on Thursday under the chairmanship of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is also the chairman of COMCEC.

The ministers of economy and trade of the OIC member countries will exchange their views on issues like the role of public-private partnership (PPP) in the development of tourism sector in OIC member states; financial cooperation among the OIC member countries; and poverty alleviation.

The meeting of the senior officials of COMCEC has been scheduled to run on November 25-26, where delegations of the member states and the OIC institutions seek to enhance economic and commercial cooperation among the member states.

The senior officials will also discuss and consider the recommendations of technical and background reports prepared and presented by relevant OIC institutions.

COMCEC is one of the four standing committees of the OIC, which has been established to advance issues of critical importance to the organization and its member states. COMCEC has been annually convening at the ministerial level in Istanbul since 1984.

Prior to the annual sessions of COMCEC, a follow-up committee convenes with the participation of a number of the member countries together with the relevant OIC institutions.
