A day after poachers killed a rhino and de-horned it in the Bagori forest range of Kaziranga, in the state of Assam, India, seven staff members of the park, including three constables of the state forest protection force, were suspended on Friday for negligence of duty. Park Director SN Singh said the officials had been posted in the Daflang and Amkathani anti-poaching camps and were suspended by divisional forest officer in charge of Kaziranga, Pallav Deka, Times of India reported. “When poachers killed the adult male rhino, the staff members could have opened fire from a place located between Daflang and Amkathani but they failed to take any defensive step. This amounts to negligence of duty and hence they were suspended,” Singh said.
