Researchers at Iran’s Amir Kabir University have developed a “brain stimulator” or trans-cranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) which can be used in treating Parkinson’s patients, Mehr News Agency reports. The system widely used in several countries aims to treat the disease with low-level electrical currents targeted at specific areas of the brain which cause Parkinson’s. Golnaz Baghdadi, Bioelectric PhD student at Biomedical Engineering Department of Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT), told the news agency the tDCS device has been developed in Iran for the first time by a team at AUT. After a few sessions using the device, according to Baghdadi, the worse symptoms of Parkinson’s can be quelled. “The effects will last up to three to four months, and then the patient needs to go back to the hospital so that the device will be adjusted to a specific dosage to be used by the patient at home.”
