South Pars Gas Field phases 13, and 22-24 should produce an estimated 113 million cubic meters of natural gas per day (4 billion cubic feet) by the third quarter of 2017, or halfway through the next Iranian fiscal year, director of the Pars Oil and Gas Company said on Saturday.

“POGC has plans to speed up the development of these four phases so that they become partially operational in less than a year,” Mohammad Meshkinfam was quoted as saying by IRNA.

Attaching special significance to the participation of Iran Marine Industrial Company (SADRA) and Khatam-al-Anbia Engineering Firm in providing equipment to complete the offshore facilities, Meshkinfam said the onshore sectors of phases 22, 23, 24 and 13 have made good progress "but more investment is needed to launch the offshore facilities on  schedule."

SADRA is one of the leading ship building and repair companies in Iran, which is active in major offshore oil and gas development projects. It specializes in building ships, docks as well as floating oil rigs. 

Khatam-al-Anbia is a major contractor in industrial projects. The company, established during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980's to help rebuild the country, has over the years diversified into a mechanical, engineering, energy, mining and defense sectors.

South Pars is the world’s largest gas field shared by Iran and Qatar, covering an area of 3,700 square kilometers of Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf.

  Phase 19 Development

According to Hamidreza Masoudi, contractor of the South Pars Phase 19, as soon as South Pars Gas Field's platform 19A goes on stream, daily gas output from this phase will reach 42 million cubic meters.

Phase 19 has the capacity to process 37 million cubic meters of gas per day which would be supplied to the Sixth Iran National Gas Trunkline (IGAT 6).

Masoudi added that the National Iranian Oil Company exported 4.5 million barrels of gas condensates from Phase 19 to target destinations since the beginning of the fiscal year in March.

Referring to the completion of butane and propane refining units at the site of Phase 19 by the end of the year, he said that as soon as liquefied petroleum gas units go on stream, 2,800 tons of butane and propane a day will be produced in Phase 19.

On compliance with environmental standards, the official said up to 4 mcm/d of associated petroleum gases (APG) has been reduced in Phase 19.

APG is a form of natural gas found in petroleum deposits. It is often released as a waste product. When it is burned off in flares, it is referred to as flare gas.

Masoudi noted that as soon as the third and fourth sulfur recycling units of South Pars Phase 19 come on stream, harmful gas components will be cut significantly.
