Ambassador in Baku Javad Jahangirzadeh and Azeri Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov in a meeting discussed military cooperation between the two neighbors.

“Bilateral military ties are proceeding successfully according to plans,” Hasanov said in the meeting in Baku, Fars News Agency reported.

He wished success for Jahangirzadeh following his recent appointment as senior envoy to the republic.

The envoy said he will spare no effort to help strengthen bilateral relations, including cooperation in military fields.

In April 2014 Iran’s Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri in a meeting with the Azeri defense chief underlined Tehran’s willingness to expand two-way defense relations.

Jahangiri pointed to Iran’s scientific progress and said, “Iran wants a powerful Azerbaijan as neighbor and is ready for close mutual collaboration.”

He, however, expressed unhappiness about the relatively low level of trade and economic ties and exchanges between the two states and called for identifying and removing the barriers to closer commercial ties.
