Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei visited senior cleric Ayatollah Seyyed Abdolkarim Mousavi Ardebili in a hospital in Tehran on Tuesday.

The Leader was briefed on Ayatollah Mousavi Ardebili's health conditions and prayed for his recovery, according to the Leader's official website.

Ayatollah Ardebili was hospitalized and diagnosed with a serious intestinal condition on Monday. He also suffers from heart and kidney diseases.

Born in 1926, he was a close ally of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini. After the revolution, he became a founding member of the Islamic Republic Party in 1979.

He has served in various high-ranking posts, most notably as the chief justice from 1981 to 1989.

On Tuesday, other high-ranking officials, including Chairman of the Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Vice President Es'haq Jahangiri and the special aide to President Hassan Rouhani, Hossein Fereydoun, visited Ayatollah Ardebili.
