Iranian researchers at Tehran’s Amirkabir University of Technology have developed an incubator for culturing cells and microbes. Mehrdad Saviz, the project manager, said the incubator can be used to conduct electromagnetic testing on cells, Mehr News Agency reported. “As an integrated device, this incubator has been produced under microscope for the first time in the country,” he said. “If we want to keep cells outside their natural environment, we need to provide special conditions for them, as the cell can only last up to a few hours outside its habitat.” According to Saviz, the incubator has applications in laboratories and research centers. By sampling human cells, it can be easily put under radiation and researchers can then study the effects of radiation on cells. “This device has been designed and constructed on a much lower budget than its foreign versions,” he said. An incubator is a device used to grow and maintain microbiological and cell cultures. It is essential for experiments in cell biology, microbiology and molecular biology.
