Children under six years of age who suffer from malnutrition are taken in by the Imam Khomeini Relief Committee and receive appropriate food baskets and nutritional care. “Malnourished children can be referred to the committee by any medical facility across the country, or universities of medical sciences,” said Mohammadreza Shahjani, deputy head of the IKRC for family and social support, Mehr News Agency reported. Last year that ended in March, a monthly amount of 700,000 rials ($20) was spent on each malnourished child and a total of 6.6 billion rials ($190,000) was allocated to nurture 900 children, he said. Random screening of children in underprivileged areas is done at all provincial health houses in cooperation with the IKRC.
