Mazandaran Citrus Exports to Reach 20,000 Tons

Citrus fruit exports from Mazandaran are expected to reach 20,000 tons by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2017), said the governor of the northern Iranian province.

Rabi’ Fallah added that 60,000 tons will be reserved for the upcoming Iranian New Year holidays, which start on March 21, 2017.

“Mazandaran’s 170,000-hectare citrus orchards are expected to produce over 2.5 million tons of oranges, tangerines and kiwi fruits this year,” IRNA quoted him as saying.

Back in August, Mazandaran Post Office launched a new service to deliver agricultural products across the country. AgroPost facilitates the shipment of crops cultivated in the province, thereby eliminating the role of middlemen in the supply chain.

According to the director general of Mazandaran Post Office, Esmaeil Boudaghi, the services are currently available for rice and citrus fruits, but will be later expanded to include other fruits.

Over 70 kinds of agricultural produce are grown in Mazandaran that meets 40% of domestic demand for rice and 50% of citrus fruits. The province is also the sole domestic supplier of kiwi.
