A large Malaysian trade delegation headed by the country’s Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade Mustapa Mohamed left Kuala Lumpur for Tehran on Friday. The minister is scheduled to meet Iranian officials during his three-day stay, including his counterpart Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh and Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi, who also co-chairs Iran-Malaysia Economic Commission, IRNA reported.  A trade forum is also slated for Saturday where the business figures of the two countries’ private sectors will discuss cooperation in a wide range of sectors, including but not limited to shipbuilding, IT, engineering services, oil and gas as well as renewable energies. Iran exported $40.6 million worth of goods to Malaysia in the last fiscal year (March 2015-16), registering a 32% decline compared with the year before. Malaysia, in return, exported $273.4 million worth of commodities to Iran, registering a 14% fall.
