Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Ali Akbar Salehi and President of China's National Nuclear Corporation Sun Qin in a meeting in Tehran on Monday discussed mutual cooperation.
The two sides voiced their willingness to expand bilateral ties in all areas related to the peaceful use of nuclear energy and exchanged views on ways to expedite the modernization process of Arak heavy water reactor, Fars News Agency reported.
The Chinese delegation also paid a visit to the Arak research reactor.
In late August, Salehi and the head of China's Atomic Energy Authority, Xu Dazhe, discussed areas of bilateral cooperation in Beijing.
Salehi and Xu underlined the need for the implementation of the July 2015 nuclear agreement signed between Tehran and world powers as well as construction of new nuclear plants by China in Iran.
Earlier in October, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi announced that Tehran and Beijing had started their cooperation on heavy water swaps.
"Iran has already started cooperation with some countries on peaceful nuclear technology, the most recent of which is Iran-China cooperation on heavy water," Takht-Ravanchi told reporters on the sidelines of the Ninth International Nano Exhibition.
He noted that the post-sanctions era has prepared a suitable ground for scientific, academic and research exchanges between Iran and the international community in different fields.
Under the nuclear deal, Iran is committed to modernizing the Arak reactor to reduce its plutonium output and limiting its stock of heavy water to 130 tons.
