Ali Akbar Velayati, the Leader’s top advisor for international affairs, said cooperation between Tehran and Beijing is increasing over Syria.

“As we move along, the policies of Iran and China are becoming closer, the latest instance of which is China’s policy on the Syrian issue,” Velayati said on Saturday, Fars News Agency reported.

“We have supported the legal government of Syria for the past five years and you have witnessed recently that China’s policy on Syria has come closer to Iran’s policies,” he said.

His remarks follow media reports last month that a Chinese military delegation in a visit to Damascus explored avenues of dispatching warplanes to Syria to intensify the war on terror in the Arab country.

Also in August, Director of the Office for International Military Cooperation of China’s Central Military Commission Guan Youfei visited Damascus for talks with Syrian Defense Minister Fahd Jassem al-Freij.

After the meetings in the Syrian capital, Guan said Beijing and Damascus agreed that the Chinese military will provide humanitarian aid to Syria, adding that the training of Syrian personnel by Chinese instructors was also discussed.
