A senior official at the Interior Ministry said Wednesday regular meetings between the ministry and political parties will resume in the coming weeks.
"The regular meetings with parties were not held because we were busy organizing the elections for the Majlis and Assembly of Experts," Deputy Interior Minister for Political Affairs Mohammad Hossein Moqimi told IRNA.
The votes for the legislature and the powerful assembly were held simultaneously in February. A run-off for the Majlis took place in late April.
Moqimi said the first meeting is likely to be held before the end of the holy month of Ramadan on July 6.
"In the meetings, parties are expected to try to [offer ideas to help] improve the decision-making process in the government, particularly regarding the economic problems, the Resistance Economy and social issues."
The Resistance Economy is a set of policies outlined by the Leader to help promote self-reliance and wean the country off the overt dependence on oil export revenues.
Pointing to a recent proposal by President Hassan Rouhani for holding monthly meetings between the government and all political groups to help identify the best solutions to the country's main problems, Moqimi praised the idea and said the 'House of Parties' can play the main role in organizing such meetings.
Speaking to a gathering of political activists on Monday, Rouhani suggested holding monthly meetings between representatives from the political factions to help build a much-needed consensus on how best to address national challenges and move forward.
"We should all tread the path to convergence and engage in healthy political competition to reduce our differences and help develop and strengthen the country," the president was quoted as saying.
Politicos Welcome Presidential Proposal
Various political activists and officials have welcomed the president's proposal.
A pro-government lawmaker, Rassoul Khezri, said in an interview with ISNA on Wednesday that if the initiative is accepted by political parties and implemented, it can help address the economy's structural problems and create jobs.
"If the idea is put into practice, we will see greater solidarity among political blocs and their increased efforts to help solve the country's problems, especially in the fields of economy and employment."
Secretary-General of the Popular Reformist Front Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Zare Foumani told IRNA on Wednesday that the proposal can help improve coordination among politicians.
Foumani urged all parties to consider the proposal and said they should be aware that their rivalries should not interfere with their programs to help identify and address the problems of the masses.
