More than 13,000 tons of shrimp were exported in the last Iranian year (March 2015-16), registering a 10% increase compared with a year before, the head of Iran Fisheries Organization said. According to Hassan Salehi, “Our main export destinations were Vietnam and the UAE. Unfortunately, the 19% tariff set by the European Union on Iranian shrimp has prevented trade with member states since Iranian producers cannot compete with rivals like Ecuador that enjoy much lower tariffs.” The official added that representatives from the organization have recently held a meeting with EU officials, where the two sides agreed on forming a joint commission to reduce the tariff on Iranian shrimps, ISNA reported.
