China's SAIC Motor Corp. says it will launch the sale of its locally built MG GS compact crossover in the UK in the second half of 2016. The vehicle will have a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a manual or dual-clutch transmission. The MG GS went on sale in China in February with a starting price of 109,700 yuan ($16,900). Monthly sales have reached 5,000 vehicles, according to SAIC. In Iran—a target market for the group—the SUV went on sale last November with deliveries in January, according to a report in Financial Tribune. The crossover is the third model assembled at MG's Longbridge plant in the UK. The first two models are the MG3 hatchback and the MG6 compact sedan. Nanjing Automobile Group Co., a state-owned automaker in the east China city of Nanjing, bought the MG brand from bankrupt UK automaker MG Rover in 2005. In 2007, Nanjing Auto was acquired by SAIC.
