With Thai AirAsia X launching for the first time direct flights between Bangkok and Tehran in June, the budget airline’s chief executive believes more Iranians will visit Thailand this year. Speaking to the media on Friday, Nadda Buranasiri said the direct route would help increase the number of Iranian tourists to Thailand by 30%, IRNA reported. “In 2015, around 88,000 Iranians traveled to Thailand, which was a 20% increase compared to the before,” he said. The carrier will fly direct from Bangkok to Tehran three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) from June 22. The route is being introduced with a special promotional fare for a return ticket starting at Bt5,685 ($160) for economy-class seats and Bt19,643 ($551) for premium flat-bed business-class seats. Thai AirAsia X is part-owned by Malaysia-based AirAsia X, which is restarting its Kuala Lumpur-Tehran route on June 21, nearly four years after it suspended the flight.
