Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei reiterated the need to support domestic production.
In a meeting with high-ranking officials on Wednesday, the Leader provided insight into ways of implementing the set of economic principles known as Resistance Economy by the special government office tasked with putting the policies into practice.
The principles outlined by Ayatollah Khamenei are aimed at bolstering domestic production, curb dependence on oil exports, improve productivity and encourage Iranians to buy domestically-manufactured products.
"The Central Headquarters of the Resistance Economy must be under the full control of the government and the first vice president. The headquarters should set the stage for taking comprehensive action to materialize [the slogan of the year]," he said.
The Leader highlighted economic issues as the main concern in his new year speech and named the new Iranian year (started March 20) after "Resistance Economy: Action and Implementation".
Ayatollah Khamenei underlined the supervisory responsibility of the Resistance Economy headquarters.
Such an oversight has to ensure that "organizations operating within the framework of the [Resistance Economy] policies must experience improvement, and the ones which are indifferent should be redirected to the right path. Measures of organizations, which are against the Resistance Economy, have to be stopped," he explained.
Ayatollah Khamenei invited the government to adopt the policy of prudent spending.
"We do not hold great expectations from the government. We are aware of the problems and shortage of funds and resources, but through saving in some sectors, other sectors' shortages could be compensated," he said.
