Hyundai, a major player in the local automotive market has taken the wraps off its latest hybrid trio vehicle to be debuted in Geneva later this week.
Previously leaked details of the new Hyundai Ioniq are coming out thick and fast now, with details on both the plug-in and electric powertrain now confirmed.
Hyundai's Ioniq is the first car to offer hybrid, plug-in and pure electric powertrains and will debut in Geneva next week, with the details of both the plug-in hybrid powertrain and the all-electric BEV Ioniq trickling in.
Hyundai last month revealed it will get a 103-bhp 1.6-liter GDI engine mated to a 43-bhp electric motor, but the Ioniq will be delivering from its trio of powertrains.
The Ioniq Plug-in Hybrid will use the same 1.6-liter GDi engine and electric motor setup, but in the plug-in, the electric motor is more powerful and offers a maximum of 155 bhp and an electric range of up to 50 km and official emissions of 32 g/km.
The all-electric Ioniq gets an uprated 28 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which is said to be able to offer up to 155 miles between charges powering a 115-bhp electric motor.
The Ioniq range will feature the latest connectivity, with Android Auto and Apple Car Play as well as TomTom live services, wireless phone charging and digital instruments.
There’s also plenty of safety tech on offer too, with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic and Smart Cruise all on offer.
You’ll be able to differentiate the different Ioniq models on the road from their color accents, with the hybrid and plug-in getting Blue accents and the Electric Ioniq getting Copper accents.
Thomas A. Schmidt, Hyundai’s Europe COO, said: "With our pioneering ix35 fuel-cell electric vehicle and several hybrid and plug-in hybrid models sold around the world, Hyundai Motor already has a proven capability in electrified powertrains.
"Now, with the launch of our first dedicated model, we are taking the lead as the only car manufacturer with hybrid, electric, plug-in hybrid and fuel-cell vehicles in production.
The Hyundai Ioniq gets its public debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show to be held during March 3-13. However, there are no details on the car's distribution in the local market.
