Traditional medicine can have a significant influence on people’s wellbeing and reduce the number of visits to physicians and prescribed medications, said Mahmoud Khodadoost, deputy for traditional medicine at the Health Ministry. “Based on a study done by the UK National Health System Networks, 75% of outpatient treatments are unnecessary or patients could get treated with remedies other than prescribed medicine,” he told ISNA. Underlining the necessity to raise public awareness on traditional medicine, he said there is no difference between paying a primary visit to a general physician’s office or a traditional medicine center since medical experts are present at the centers as well, and their practice is also based on medical science.
