Georgian FM to Discuss Economic Ties

Head of Iran-Georgia parliamentary friendship group Moayyed Hosseini Sadr conferred with Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze in Tbilisi on Tuesday.

The Georgian foreign minister referred to the growing trend of Iran-Georgia relations over the past years and said, “Georgia attaches great importance to its relations with Iran and expansion of bilateral ties in areas of mutual interest,” ISNA reported.

Georgia regards economic cooperation as one of the most important aspects of its relations with Iran, she said.

Panjikidze added that she plans to visit Iran soon to hold talks with Iranian officials on bilateral cooperation in various areas, particularly the economic sphere.

Hosseini Sadr expressed the parliament’s readiness to expand relations with the Georgian parliament and said, “The Majlis backs any plan and program proposed to help promote Iran-Georgia mutual ties.”    

The parliamentarian said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has always respected Georgia’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity on the basis of international law.”

He went on to say that collaboration in the international arena can be a key part of cooperation between the two countries.  

The lawmaker also touched on the massive operations of terrorist groups in the Middle East and said, “Extremism and repulsive actions of terrorist groups pose a threat to the security of the region and the world,” adding, “Close cooperation and continuous consultations” between the two countries’ officials can contribute to the campaign against terrorism .
