Tehran and the European Union are set to begin cooperation in a wide range of domains, the foreign minister said.
Speaking to reporters upon arrival in Brussels on Sunday night for a two-day official visit, Mohammad Javad Zarif also said comprehensive cooperation between Iran and the EU will begin in various areas of mutual interest, IRNA reported.
Zarif was scheduled to meet Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel and his counterpart Didier Reynders and top EU officials, including the bloc's foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini.
"We have started some important discussions with the EU at the level of deputy foreign ministers. These talks will proceed in ministerial meetings during Mogherini's upcoming trip to Tehran," Zarif said.
A trip to Tehran by Helga Schmid, Mogherini's deputy, last week marked the beginning of high-level bilateral talks as part of a decision agreed between the two sides' top diplomats in July, following the announcement of a nuclear deal between Iran and P5+1 (Britain, France, the US, Russia and China, plus Germany).
Zarif said his talks with Mogherini will also focus on issues related to the implementation of the accord, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
"Apart from bilateral issues, I will discuss the details of enforcing JCPOA with Mogherini who is in charge of coordination within the Joint Commission," he said.
The action plan was agreed on July 14 and went into force last month to subject Tehran's nuclear program to temporary constraints in return for an end to international sanctions.
It provides for the establishment of the Joint Commission, comprised of parties to the deal tasked with monitoring its implementation and addressing issues arising from it.
"The full removal of sanctions is in the common interest of both EU and Iranian officials. We have been pursuing the issue seriously, but we still need more coordination," the chief nuclear negotiator added.
