Three European airlines — British Airways, KLM and Air France — have plans to undertake special flights to Iran on the eve of the new Iranian year starting March 20, an official at the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development said.

Hamid Reza Seyyedi, a board member of Iran’s main international airport, Imam Khomeini International Airport, said on Friday that the three companies have presented flight plans for late March, the ministry’s official website reported.

According to the official, Lufthansa, which has already resumed flights to Iran, has submitted a request to increase the number of its flights during the two-week Nowruz (Iranian new year) holiday season (March 18-April 2).

Seyyedi added that domestic airlines also want to increase the number of international flights during the annual holidays -- the main (and extended) travel season in Iran when most families visit friends and relatives in and outside the country. As for air travel, almost all flights, including charters for package tours, are overbooked months before the New Year.
