The deputy secretary general of the Combatant Clergy Association has highlighted the importance of “convergence” between principlist groups, saying the principlists are seriously trying to forge unity.
It is likely that two or three prominent figures will spearhead the campaign to achieve unity among the principlists, Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Movahhedi Kermani told reporters on Sunday. IRNA also quoted him as saying the association has no plan yet to hold a meeting to choose the successor of Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Mahdavi Kani, secretary general of the principlist group, who died in hospital last week after being in a coma for months.
